Hello Gray Whale families! My name is Elise Nelson and I am honored to be your child’s teacher. This is my Fourth year working at CMP in the Gray Whale classroom and my fourth year as a teacher. I spent my first year teaching second grade at Northwood Elementary. I am thrilled to continue my journey as a Montessori teacher in the collaborative environment that CMP offers. I have been working with children in various capacities for over 9 years and I appreciate the joy and fulfillment that they bring into my life.
I love the Montessori method of education because it focuses on nurturing the whole child. It is my goal to enable students to reach their full academic potential while fostering their development into confident, compassionate, and well-rounded children.
I grew in the Napa Valley and am a fourth generation teacher. I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Davis. While in college, I worked with foster and homeless youth as a support mentor and tutor. I also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Reading Partners. I graduated from the UC Davis Education program with my Elementary Teaching Credential in 2013. In my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, reading, and swimming.
I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your child this school year. Thank you in advance for your support of the Gray Whale classroom community!
Hello Montessori families, I am pleased and very excited to be the TA in Gray Whale. Since January of 2018, when I was hired as a floating TA and Substitute Teacher, I have become quite familiar with many classrooms here at Capitol Campus since. I quickly found a great joy teaching to all of the grade levels. Still, the students of Gray Whale certainly stood out in my mind. I am delighted to find it as my permanent classroom and TA position. Working with Montessori children has certainly become a passion of mine, cultivated through the atmosphere and culture of this campus. I am also excited to share a few of my other passions which I will incorporate into the classroom.
For instance, I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in English Literature at Sacramento State and have already put my skills to use through helping various students with their writing. Although this may not directly or immediately apply to the 6-9 students, my fascination with language does penetrate through to each level of academia - to all the grade levels. Besides writing and language I also love music, including playing and performing, studying music theory, and teaching guitar. I especially look forward to bringing some of these musical components into the classroom of Gray Whale!
